About
Hello! I’m James Oakey and I like to make things and tell stories. As a kid, I discovered a lifelong interest in the process of creating. Somewhere there’s a VHS tape of a two-year-old James longingly pleading for Dad’s camcorder. Maybe it was meant to be. Today, I put that curiosity to use in service of crafting brand identities, products, and other bits and bobs with a particular love for fun little details.

STAR Team splash
"STAR TEAM is a toy line that introduces worldbuilding through characters that solve personal, political, and moral problems with their hearts and minds, packaged in a way that takes kids and play seriously. The setting is futuristic and science-fiction inspired, depicting a human society that’s reached out into the stars and found its place among diverse alien cultures. Unfortunately, these differences in culture lead to misunderstandings and friction between these societies, which our heroes set out to help solve. The central themes of this world include the importance of teamwork and treating everybody equally, an emphasis on protection over violence, and using your hearts and smarts to overcome hardship. The tone is bright and optimistic, but not without danger and adversity. STAR TEAM is meant to be enjoyed by kids of all identities and backgrounds in the eight to twelve age range, with a particular focus on inclusivity and rejecting a “boys’ toy/girls’ toy” dichotomy."
