2021 Annual Exhibition

MFA Fine Arts
Message from the Chair

We began this pandemic year of remote education with a commitment to our MFA Fine Arts students: ensure access to the studios as much as safety regulations would allow and meet the great challenge of offering the quality of teaching and learning, the quality of faculty support, and spirit of community that our program is known for. Each of our inspiring students as well as each of our dedicated faculty (Judie Bamber, Andrea Bowers, Cletus Dalglisch-Shommer, Allison Miller, Kori Newkirk, Renée Petropoulos, Kade Twist and Ben Weissman) have played a unique and irreplaceable role in fulfilling this commitment. As you will see in the student galleries, the MFA Fine Arts students rose to the challenge, deepening their focus on developing art practices that express their unique and diverse perspectives and thoughtful consideration of being an artist during times of crisis, not-knowing, and unlearning.

This year’s group exhibition, "Far for the End", organized by Renée Petropoulos brings the work of the graduating class together in physical conversation. "Far for the End" follows a season of individual thesis exhibitions – the culminating event for each graduating student. Resilience, commitment and flexibility have marked this memorable year. It’s been a privilege to be part of our students’ journey.

Congratulations to the MFA Fine Arts class of 2021!
