About
Sharon Barnes is a Los Angeles-based visual artist who works primarily through Social Abstraction. Interested in the potential of objects to speak about the human condition, her works move freely between two and three-dimensional space, merging traditions of painting, sculpture and installation. Barnes investigates poetic materiality using a broad range of materials and processes that can imply fracture and reparation, displacement and relocation, layer and overlap against the backdrop of identity, socio-cultural histories and contemporary events. Her work is additionally informed by the tones and rhythms in music and spoken word. Barnes' MFA Thesis Show at Otis titled "Light as a Feather/Heavy as Lead" after lyrics by Bob Marley, featured 14 works that exemplify her medium bridging, inter-disciplinary practice.
