LACC Dance Center

  • LACC Dance Center
The LACC Dance Center is a community college for dancers on Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles. This project explores the connection between the dancers and the general public.
  • Site Axonometric
6806 Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028
  • Massing and Program Diagram
The façade of the building facing the plaza will be a vision box for performers. At night, the transparency of the glass acts like TV channels that are visible from the plaza and from Hollywood Blvd. This allows dual performances inside and outside of the building connecting new talents that perform in various ways.
  • 1st and 2nd floor Plan
  • Lecture and Performance
The performance hall can be used for lectures or performances. Transparent glass allows visibility from the plaza which encourages dual performances. An automatic screen is recessed in the ceiling and can be deployed for more private performances.
  • 3rd, 4th, and 5th floor Plan
The 3rd floor consists of classrooms, lounges, and administration offices. The 4th floor consists of 3 studio spaces that can be expanded in to 5 rooms. The 5th floor holds micro-unit dorms and shared amenities.
  • View of the Studios
The areas of all studios are approximately the same as the performance stage, which gives the dancers the feel of their performance space. Studio 1 faces the plaza which becomes part of the vision box. Studio 2 and 3 can be divided in to 4 different studios that are more privatized.

Live and Work

  • Live and Work
This live-work complex is an adaptive re-use project located in downtown Los Angeles.
  • User and Program Diagram
The project's site is surrounded by Los Angeles' art district, toy district, and other business headquarters. The focus of this design is on living and working within the complex. The building targets artists, professionals, and workers.
  • 4th and 5th Floor Plan
The design encourages people to work in a common studio space, making connections and collaboratively working with each other.
  • Section A
  • Unit Detail
Individual units are minimal with a single bedroom and a private bath. However, the kitchen and studio/study space are shared by everyone, which encourages people to work together.

Cascade Laundromat

  • Cascade Laundromat
Cascade Laundromat is an inspirational design of a laundromat/library/public shower that is located in Frogtown, Los Angeles, CA.
  • Concept Diagram
This design was inspired by a scenic Korean painting which illustrates women bathing, washing their clothes, grooming, and socializing by the river. These four elements harmonize with one another to create a unique space in this design.
  • Plan and Section
The geometry of the design is inspired by the winding path of the river that extends out towards the landscape. The wet zone, or the laundromat and the public shower is located below ground that can be accessed by a ramp that flows you inside the space. The dry zone, or the library and social area is located on the ground floor with an amphitheater that looks down to the wet zone. The amphitheater and the laundry area both represents the topography of the mountains and the cascading river. The wet and the dry zone is separate but connected with each other.
