The smudge resides in our daily life - flies and dives, screams and hushes, writes and listens, flows and stomps… The smudge is neither linear nor definite: The smudge is universal, fleeting, and phenomenological. The smudge is what you hear, what you see, what you smell, what you taste and where your finger lands on. The smudges are the affections among all those.

About the Artist
Xiao Xu is a graphic designer and illustrator. Reconciling graphic design and illustration, Xiao investigates craft, precision, emotion, and thinking as a designer in contemporary design culture. Xiao received her MFA degree in graphic design from Otis College of Art and Design, and her BFA degree from Maryland Institute College of Art where she studied illustration and book art. Xiao currently freelances for a variety of firms comprising art direction, graphic design, and illustration.
