About
My name is Sejun Park. I'm a Korean-American character concept artist that focuses on Eastern anime-style art. With my fluency between cultures, I draw inspiration and reference from my backgrounds. I have received my bachelors degree from Otis College of Art and Design in Digital Media for Game and Entertainment, and I wish to go forth to create worlds that resonate with multiple cultures easily.

Undercity Hero - a fusion fantasy light novel series concept featuring dungeons and hunters. As a game urban fantasy, the story takes place in Korea. The main character is transformed into a vampire, and (s)he must now carry on their life as a hunter, undercover, in a country littered with religious buildings. The excess amount of garlic in foods makes it even more difficult.

Main cast of characters, Park Hyunmin, Selvie Von Blutrose, Lee Yeonhwa, and Kim Changsoo. We can see the colour palette used. Hyunmin, the Paladin, has silvers and golds, and touches of red. Selvie, a vampire queen, has colours of blood and purple. Yeonhwa, a flame elementalist, has colours of fire and ash. Changsoo, the futuristic lancer, has dull greys, blues, and digital camo.

In Progress art of Selvie. I experimented with different poses, and I ended up moving forward with pose 1. I also changed her outfit during this process, keeping in the regal-ness while making her outfit more practical to fight in. I looked at the jagdkommando knives as an inspiration for her rapier. I wanted something stabby, something that would help her collect blood easily. Instead of using a swept hilt rapier, I used a more fantasy-like grip and guard, with a built in blood well that could store the blood she collects.
-
Turnaround for Selvie. We can see how her outfit fits around her form.
-
Final render image for Selvie Von Blutrose. Here, unlike in the title image, we see Selvie without her characteristic rapier and blood orb.

Original concept arts for Hyunmin. I have the colours in for his armour, and some early weapon explorations. I looked at different types of weapons a paladin would typically carry in a fantasy setting, and I also looked at other weapons. I was looking for something large, maybe something he could protect himself with as well as attack. I ended up going with a hammer, a non-bladed weapon, because it's not in his character to use a bladed weapon to kill.
-
a quick concept idea of how Hyunmin would fight with his party. He wields his hammer in the front, shielding them with his skill. He manifests a shield of light, and protects those in need behind him.
-
Concepts and explorations for Yeonhwa, the flame elementalist. She also underwent major changes through the months. She was at first a rash, hotheaded character, quick to explode like her title "supervolcano". However, I thought that a cool, calm and collected flame mage would be interesting, so she also underwent change. She's clad in a more modern outfit, a black jacket and jeans, but has fantasy aspects about her, like the tome at her belt or the vials of potions around her chest. Her staff was also interesting to work with. I explored different types of staffs, ranging from a futuristic, geometric design to classic, natural staffs. The idea of having a natural staff with an ever-burning fire in a branch, but I ended up moving forward with a more aggressive looking staff.
-
Artwork of Yeonhwa on top of a skyscraper in Korea. She's sitting on the edge of the building. Her tome is open, and her eyes and staff is glowing, signaling that she's about to cast some sort of magic.
-
Changsoo, the lancer, is known for copying spearmen from movies and anime. I've looked at different illustrations and martial artists with poles and spears, and I tried to place him in different poses. I've also explored some different spearheads to see different options. I ended up coming up with a spear with a free transforming head so he can adapt the spear to fit the form or character he's imitating.
-
Changsoo is fighting gamasot soldiers in front of Soongryemoon. His spearhead has transformed into a polearm, which fits his current fighting form.

Concepts for some monsters in Twisted Folklore, a Korean museum turned into a dungeon. All the monsters are either older Korean items or creatures from stories.
