Fine Arts (Photography)

About
I am erick cortes, a photo-based artist working out of Los Angeles, California. I take photos and I take photos. Photos from public and private archives, found inside forgotten film rolls and SD cards, and of course, from the internet. Along with my interest in photographs and images, I am also interested in using found or recycled materials, the waste of consumerism, in place of traditional, archival ones such as cardboard or scrap plywood. My goal is to use these materials as a vehicle to engage with the issues plaguing the human experience of the 21st century.

Old meets now, now meets new is an on-going photographic series where I go to locations of personal, communal, and bureaucratic importance, and rephotograph archived images on top of them. Using this typology, my intention is to create a visual bridge between the past, present, and future.
